Loss of the Living Iconography Tradition - by Aidan Hart (2000) *
In an Excellent article titled Iconographers of the Twentieth Century (PDF), Aidan Hart cites the growing decadence in icon painting in Greece, Russia and the Balkans, experienced in the past 300 - 400 years, (17th- 18th- 19th- 20th centuries), as a major reason for the loss of the living iconography tradition in the 2nd half of the 20th c. He goes on to mention the iconographers who were / are at the core of the revival / return to painting traditional icons. A "must read" for every iconographer.
